Now Parenting: Week 44

Sunday: Woke before 6am, less than five hours. With Alexandra for 1.5 hours from 7am (pulling items off bookshelf), then breakfast and I crash. Grading after 10:30am until heading out for weight check. Some sweeping, then back to grading around 12:30pm. With little one again for 1.5 hours after 2:30pm including standard snooze, back to grading around 4:30pm. Upstairs less than an hour later; little one seems to notice my absence if I'm around during the day, then not. Phoned home before 6pm, dinner afterwards. During bath she moved along to watch the water, then later tried to drink the suds (oops). Some back and forth sharing of fussing, which seemed frequent. Downstairs before 10:30pm, as I contemplate how students cheated on last test.

Monday: Woke up 6am - over six hours sleep(!). Some grading, with Alexandra for 15 minutes after she woke up at 7:10am. After breakfast, standard school with speech to 3U classes. Home before 5pm, but two hour snooze didn't end until 5:15pm. (Also, Spring Photo Day earlier.) With little one for almost 45 minutes after 5:30pm, then we went out for municipal voting. Dinner after 7pm, then routine that didn't end until after 8:30pm. And every half hour, needed soothing. Managed to get downstairs before 10:30pm.

Tuesday: Awake by 5:30am, bit over six hours sleep; tried to get more. Nope. With Alexandra for 45 minutes from 6:45am, then standard school. Home before 4:30pm, with little one again for two hours of play. Dinner routine, tried to deal with fussing amid cooking, Mom had the touch tonight. Downstairs 10pm.

Wednesday: Basically same as Tuesday but did some writing. At 7am little one was eating, so with her for 15 min or so after, then breakfast. Standard school with duty at lunch, trying to grade after school. Home about 5:45pm, Alexandra time for half an hour, then dinner routines. (She was with the Easter bunny and at the movies today.) In bed after 7:30pm, some fussing before 8:30pm but that was it. Downstairs 10pm.

Thursday: Awake about 4:30am, six hours... got to grading. With Alexandra for 20 minutes after 7am, then 10 month photo. Breakfast and standard school with anime club at lunch. Home after 5pm, with little one for a 75 minute stretch during which she worked out opening cabinets under the TV (but not keeping them open), had music time with her multi-play toy, and then scooted herself to the closed door hiding Mom when she was done. Dinner after 6:30pm (and an attempt to drain the bath by finding the plug). Some fussing 8:30pm. Mom downstairs after 10:30pm. I lie down after 11:15pm.

Friday Morn: Awake and fussing at 1:15am. Give her change and bottle and back in crib by 1:45am. Trouble falling asleep, then dream was in different house with TVs and she's growing and needs new clothes and Mom comes up and says that's typical for after 10 months. Awake before 3:45am, confused, brief whine goes nowhere. Pass out again, awake 5am for full cry. She's asleep - until I put her down in the bed, then she wakes. Becomes major issue by 5:30am and Mom came up. Music and bottle help soothe her after 6:30am; they sleep, I can't.

Friday: Alexandra awakens after 8am, I spend 100+ minutes with her; she rummages through old bottles and turns the lights twice. Breakfast by 10am. Quick run, attempted sleep about 11am; not really. Some writing. Lunch after 1pm, then with Alexandra from 2pm until 5:30pm (minus 15 and 10 minute spans) including standard snooze, as Mom did taxes. Discovered pulling apart CD tray, and was able to go from on tummy to sitting without external help (just cushion). Also gave her pot for kitchen and she trucked down the main hall. After 5:30pm, was able to deal with Xmas lights, no longer frozen - but half strand now busted. Dinner after 6pm. Back and forth with fussing. After a change about 10:15pm, I'm out for the count.

Saturday: Awake 5am, so regular sleep. Report card items until 7am. With Alexandra solo until she takes a tumble, then Mom joins us. Breakfast after 8am, then some packing. Cut nails during nap, a bit of grading, day prep, back with her for half an hour before 11am. Lunch at noon, standard snooze until after 1pm. Then after 1:30pm, took a header off the bed. Still okay to go, carried through airport since carseat had to be checked before security. VERY good on the flight (3:45-4:45pm), in particular during a lot of turbulence landing - fell asleep on me. Only casualty was my step counter, ran back to the gate but they said they hadn't seen it. Back at Nick's after 6pm, bunny gift. Dinner after 7pm, fussing after 8pm (from upstairs to in K'tan), departure 9:30pm. Attempt to return to sleep at new destination before 11pm, vague success by 11:10pm.
