Now Parenting: Week 45

Sunday: Awake before 1am. Attempted sleep, but Alexandra was feverish by 2am, so downstairs. She managed to fall asleep in my arms by 3am after dirtying diaper; changed her when she woke at 5:30am. Then I got an hour of sleep until after 7am, followed by another change. Best guess, overheated due to grandparents having high thermostat, then the prunes from dinner kicked in. Woke Mom by 9:30am, managed to get out just after 10:15am, big family buffet meal from 11am (easter egg hunt at noon). Back to Davina's until 2pm, home after 3pm. I sack out for 45 min or so, then an hour of report cards, then manage to snooze Alexandra for 30 min to 6pm. She's still fussy; we go outside, it's the heat again. Play, then wake Mom after 7:15pm; I move everything downstairs. Dinner after 7:30pm, including early birthday. ^.^ Replacement pedometer. Bath 8:30pm, in crib by 9:15pm. Occasional fussing as I do more report cards. Upstairs before 11:30pm, in bed about midnight.
Previous INDEX Next

Monday: Six hours sleep, as you do. Alexandra was in crib until 4:30am! Total success with basement. With her for about 75 minutes from 7:15am, then her breakfast, then her snooze of a bit over 30 minutes. Out after 10am for our breakfast, home before 11:30am. Grading, but snooze problems after 12:15pm, not resolved until before 1pm plus doing some tech support. Packing, quick leftovers lunch, left 2:10pm for airport. Check-in all good (they took little one's face cream which we had in the same place going down), arrival at gate (still in middle of nowhere so K'tan) just before boarding call. We were seated across from a 1 year old, so some peeking. Landing was less rough, but more of a problem for Alexandra; made it to car for 5:30pm, home 6pm - and she's asleep. We unpack, attempt dinner/bath but tears until story. In crib after 7pm, and back to grading. x.x Bit of fussing; I go downstairs by 11:30pm.

Tuesday: Awake after 5:30am, finish report cards. With Alexandra for over 20 minutes after 7am, breakfast, standard school - with an on-call, so I'm 4 on 4. Shop on the way home, arrive before 5pm which is when little one awakens. With her for ~75 minutes, dinner at 6:30pm but she's fussy then and even in bath. In crib after 7pm, Mom takes first shift as I finish dinner... think I'm getting sick. With little one before 9pm, downstairs before 10pm.

Wednesday: Delirious dreams, fully wake before 6am, definitely not well. With Alexandra for half an hour from 7am, breakfast, standard school. Worse by end of day, home after 4pm, lay down for half an hour. With little one for half an hour solo, then some back and forth until 6pm and dinner. For 4th night running, doesn't want food. (Also didn't want warm milk in afternoon.) Longer bath. Some fussing at 7:30 and then 8:20pm and I have nothing left. Took flu meds and downstairs before 9pm.

Thursday: Woke 2am, then 6am, so not terrible sleep, throat still an issue. With Alexandra for half an hour from 6:45am. Staff meeting to start school about the VP situation, then standard school... but I went from weak voice to very worse. Left instructions for test/quizzes for Fri, got home 4pm to collapse in basement (just before others got home). Upstairs before 5:30 for an hour with the little one, which was mostly watching her explore except for some radio dancing. Dinner at 6:30pm and she ate, then scooted down the hall towards bath. No Int'l festival, I'm not well. Crib fussing at 8pm but not after, did comic chat, downstairs before 11pm.

Friday: Awake once, and again by 5:30am, so usual six hours. Spent morning doing some review work, was with Alexandra for over half an hour from 7am and breakfast, upstairs about 9am to find soother and talk to cleaners. After 11:30am was out and delirious for over two hours. Heard little one go to nap after 2:30pm. Came up before 4:30pm as it was quiet, both were asleep in living room. Played for 90 minutes, latter hour all me including some radio dancing. Dinner after 6pm. Fussing before 8pm. Downstairs 10pm with no activity star; upstairs for an hour around 11pm as we hit crisis mode and backup sleep sack.

Saturday: Heard things 5am after dreaming I was hosting morning announcements with broken teleprompter. Managed more sleep to 6:30am, dreaming about working near Waterloo or something. With Alexandra for 2.75 hours from 7am, including standard snooze, then breakfast (new cereal), a bit more time, then an hour for myself. With Alexandra for 2+ hours from 11:20am, including standard snooze, then met up at mall (new sleep sack). Followed by grocery shopping, home after 3pm, call from France, Alexandra time for laundry and cake creation, self time before 4pm. Back up by 5pm for fussing, and got cards. Alexandra also trucked down the hall to the bathroom, with me chasing slowly, moving like her. Dinner at 5:30pm, in crib less than an hour later. But then I'm with her for over half an hour before 7pm... and half an hour from that, Anne-Lise is needed for about the same time. But from 8:45pm on, she manages to settle herself with minimal assistance, wow. Birthday cake and Murder She Wrote analysis. Downstairs after 10pm.

Now Parenting: Week 44

Sunday: Woke before 6am, less than five hours. With Alexandra for 1.5 hours from 7am (pulling items off bookshelf), then breakfast and I crash. Grading after 10:30am until heading out for weight check. Some sweeping, then back to grading around 12:30pm. With little one again for 1.5 hours after 2:30pm including standard snooze, back to grading around 4:30pm. Upstairs less than an hour later; little one seems to notice my absence if I'm around during the day, then not. Phoned home before 6pm, dinner afterwards. During bath she moved along to watch the water, then later tried to drink the suds (oops). Some back and forth sharing of fussing, which seemed frequent. Downstairs before 10:30pm, as I contemplate how students cheated on last test.
Previous INDEX Next

Monday: Woke up 6am - over six hours sleep(!). Some grading, with Alexandra for 15 minutes after she woke up at 7:10am. After breakfast, standard school with speech to 3U classes. Home before 5pm, but two hour snooze didn't end until 5:15pm. (Also, Spring Photo Day earlier.) With little one for almost 45 minutes after 5:30pm, then we went out for municipal voting. Dinner after 7pm, then routine that didn't end until after 8:30pm. And every half hour, needed soothing. Managed to get downstairs before 10:30pm.

Tuesday: Awake by 5:30am, bit over six hours sleep; tried to get more. Nope. With Alexandra for 45 minutes from 6:45am, then standard school. Home before 4:30pm, with little one again for two hours of play. Dinner routine, tried to deal with fussing amid cooking, Mom had the touch tonight. Downstairs 10pm.

Wednesday: Basically same as Tuesday but did some writing. At 7am little one was eating, so with her for 15 min or so after, then breakfast. Standard school with duty at lunch, trying to grade after school. Home about 5:45pm, Alexandra time for half an hour, then dinner routines. (She was with the Easter bunny and at the movies today.) In bed after 7:30pm, some fussing before 8:30pm but that was it. Downstairs 10pm.

Thursday: Awake about 4:30am, six hours... got to grading. With Alexandra for 20 minutes after 7am, then 10 month photo. Breakfast and standard school with anime club at lunch. Home after 5pm, with little one for a 75 minute stretch during which she worked out opening cabinets under the TV (but not keeping them open), had music time with her multi-play toy, and then scooted herself to the closed door hiding Mom when she was done. Dinner after 6:30pm (and an attempt to drain the bath by finding the plug). Some fussing 8:30pm. Mom downstairs after 10:30pm. I lie down after 11:15pm.

Friday Morn: Awake and fussing at 1:15am. Give her change and bottle and back in crib by 1:45am. Trouble falling asleep, then dream was in different house with TVs and she's growing and needs new clothes and Mom comes up and says that's typical for after 10 months. Awake before 3:45am, confused, brief whine goes nowhere. Pass out again, awake 5am for full cry. She's asleep - until I put her down in the bed, then she wakes. Becomes major issue by 5:30am and Mom came up. Music and bottle help soothe her after 6:30am; they sleep, I can't.

Friday: Alexandra awakens after 8am, I spend 100+ minutes with her; she rummages through old bottles and turns the lights twice. Breakfast by 10am. Quick run, attempted sleep about 11am; not really. Some writing. Lunch after 1pm, then with Alexandra from 2pm until 5:30pm (minus 15 and 10 minute spans) including standard snooze, as Mom did taxes. Discovered pulling apart CD tray, and was able to go from on tummy to sitting without external help (just cushion). Also gave her pot for kitchen and she trucked down the main hall. After 5:30pm, was able to deal with Xmas lights, no longer frozen - but half strand now busted. Dinner after 6pm. Back and forth with fussing. After a change about 10:15pm, I'm out for the count.

Saturday: Awake 5am, so regular sleep. Report card items until 7am. With Alexandra solo until she takes a tumble, then Mom joins us. Breakfast after 8am, then some packing. Cut nails during nap, a bit of grading, day prep, back with her for half an hour before 11am. Lunch at noon, standard snooze until after 1pm. Then after 1:30pm, took a header off the bed. Still okay to go, carried through airport since carseat had to be checked before security. VERY good on the flight (3:45-4:45pm), in particular during a lot of turbulence landing - fell asleep on me. Only casualty was my step counter, ran back to the gate but they said they hadn't seen it. Back at Nick's after 6pm, bunny gift. Dinner after 7pm, fussing after 8pm (from upstairs to in K'tan), departure 9:30pm. Attempt to return to sleep at new destination before 11pm, vague success by 11:10pm.

Now Parenting: Week 43

Sunday: Woke up after 6am, so six hours sleep. With Alexandra for over an hour, crashed at 8:30am for another hour. Then breakfast with everyone, and eventually grading before 11am. Back with others before 12:30am, including lunch, with Alexandra for an hour from 1pm, then dealing with curtains in her room. Back to grading before 2:30pm. Then needed after 3pm as little one wakes up; with her for over two hours including call home (and ripping tissues). Back to grading for half an hour, dinner before 6pm. Making dinner, fussing after 7pm, went for a run, grading again before 8pm. Finally try to do some review work after 10:30pm, but fussing, and a half hour doesn't fix things. To bed after 12:30am.
Previous INDEX Next

Monday: Woke to alarm clock, don't remember last time that happened; also left shoulder pain is worse. Got little one dressed, got myself ready, breakfast, and to school - no busses, freezing rain earlier. So not standard (classes of 2, 2 and 6). Picked up some Stargate and groceries, home by 4:30pm - and no snooze for little one. So immediately into snooze until 5:20, then some back and forth, but largely with me. Including dance party to radio for about 20 minutes after 6pm. Dinner 6:45pm and bed routine; needed settling after 8pm. Downstairs before 11pm.

Tuesday: Woke after six hours, but dozed to 6:30am. With Alexandra for over half an hour from 7am, she got into videotapes so I gave her blocks instead. To school by 8am in snow, standard school with some help at lunch. Home by 4pm, made two snowmen for Alexandra to look at; they got home and went to snooze as I shovelled. (They were at library in the morning too.) Then half hour nap for me too, and with little one for over an hour. Dinner 6:30pm, and routine. Some fussing before 8pm, amid grading, then asleep; needs a change before 10pm but Mommy gets her sleeping again. Downstairs 10:30pm.

Wednesday: I just sleep for six hours now. Grading at 5am, with little one for about 20 minutes after 7am, day prep and breakfast, to school. Standard school, some help at the end. Home after 4:15pm (my snowmen were DOA), with Alexandra for over an hour and a half after 4:30; she did not want to be put on the floor, she wanted walking/carrying. Dinner and routine around 6:15pm. Bit of fussing after 8:30pm. Then would not settle down from 9:50pm, went through two bottles, practically crying myself to sleep at 10:30pm out of exhaustion.

Thursday: Awake 4:30am because of course less than six hours sleep; kind of snared my 45 minutes back after. (Dream of a property line dividing lush and colourful from gloomy, and there's an orc.) Bit of review work, little one sleeps through to 7:30am, so only with her briefly before school. Standardish, but lockdown drill and duty at lunch. Tired after it all. Big smile from Alexandra when arriving home after 5pm helps. With her for half an hour, then some back and forth until dinner at 6:15pm. Bed routine, taking turns, after I'm in before 9pm she's quiet (well, self-soothing) until after 10:30pm when I go downstairs.

Friday: Awake after six hours, of course. Some editing work, with Alexandra for half an hour from 7am, then prep and breakfast and leave after 8:15 - to a close school for PD. Three sessions through the day (Debates, Social justice and the Data Summative) with a snack break. Home after 3:30pm, with Alexandra for an hour, then crashed hard for at least half an hour. Dinner by 5:45pm, then routine, trading off the whines. Reorganized freezer after food delivery and did dishes. Downstairs before 10pm. Crying at 10:30, Mom tried; crying at 11:15, Dad tried with change and bottle; all gave up by midnight.

Saturday: Awake before 6am, got a few things done, with Alexandra for 3.5 hours after 7am, including standard snooze. Little one even let me do grading for a couple half hours as she wandered the living room. Then breakfast, and off to consignment sale and Parent/Child expo. Home 2:30pm and I basically pass out. An hour of sleep and off for a run, back with little one from 4:45pm. Dinner at 5:15pm as things get fussy, so longer bath. Watch candidate videos in evening. Downstairs 10:30pm. Aaaand then upstairs before 11pm, almost 45 minutes, for a change a bottle and a soothe.

Now Parenting: Week 42

Sunday: Woke before 7am, but after seven hours sleep? With Alexandra for an hour from 7:30, then breakfast, and grading during her snooze. Out by 10:30am for weighing (over 7kg) and brunch with relatives. Home after 12:30pm, into another snooze; handle driveway then grading. Jose arrives before 1:30pm, I go for a 45 min snooze once everyone's awake. More grading. Lower the bottom in the playpen. An hour with Alexandra including a standard snooze. Phone parents 5pm, then drive Jose home, dinner/bedtime routine upon return. Fussing twice between 8 and 9pm. Then after 10:30, so change and attempt to get her back down, we're trading off, it's over an hour and I have a breakdown. Downstairs about midnight, and still little cries.
Previous INDEX Next

Monday: Asleep by 1am, awake from 6am. Little one did seem to want to come to me when I approached but then went back to make breakfast. Left before 8am, quick lookup of Apr 1st probability Q, then standard school. With duty at lunch, grading after school, home before 5pm but Grocer Guy already here. After that, 15 minutes with Alexandra and I'm almost ready to collapse in tears. 15 minutes to recover, then dinner/bed routine. Ordered dinner. Some fussing from 7:30pm, each took a turn, back to me after 8pm. An our later, 9:30pm, I'm toast. Slept for over an hour, awake, then asleep again before midnight.

Tuesday: Awake from 6am; dreamt I was in some repair competition, then playing soccer with exchange student, then writing about it in a diary as rain fell. With Alexandra for half an hour from 7am, then standard school. Lost temper a bit last teaching period, then some RDA. Followed by staff meeting with guest speaker, so not done until after 4:15pm. Home after 5:30pm but others not back until 5:45pm; Alexandra had small star pasta mixed in with lunch. Played off and on for an hour, got video of her moving. Dinner about 7pm (late nap), then bath - and slid forwards in bath, drinking water, which ended that. Some fussing after 8pm, and before 9pm, then after I made dinner, grading. Ate dinner 10:30pm, some fussing 11:30pm, went downstairs.

Wednesday: Woke after less than 6 hours sleep, finished some grading. With Alexandra from 7am for a bit, then prep and breakfast. Standard school, with duty at lunch again, then a fire alarm during prep in the afternoon (small electrical fire). Home before 5pm but then out again to Doctor's. Alexandra's doing well! Then dinner at Jose's, departure after 8pm for bath and bedtime. I'm spent, downstairs after 9:30pm.

Thursday: Wake up 5am, but that's 7 hours sleep. Immediately into grading. With Alexandra for half an hour from 7am, breakfast, head to standard school. But with student protest at end of day, so partial eye on that. Then OSSTF gathering, and home before 6pm. Dishes and tidying, then others home before 7pm for dinner out. Home again before 8pm, bath and bed. I'm toast after comic chat, downstairs 10:30pm.

Friday: Awake 5:30am, did some writing. Little one upset when I tried to walk through bedroom, so morning routine for 15-20 min and shower after. Standard school, anime club at lunch. Met with student and made parent phone calls after school. Home by 5pm, little one is mobile to the point of having taken a tumble. Over an hour with her (puzzle is out now). Dinner, bath and bed - but she wouldn't settle down? That's new. Switched to me, and kind of cried self to sleep. Exhaustion before 10pm, so downstairs. (Incidentally, random feedback on the old "Polynomials" site!)

Saturday: Awake 2:15am to loud cries - peed through sleep sack (second night running). So did some of the things I'd wanted to the prior night, never really got back to sleep, kinda dozed after 4:30? With Alexandra for almost 2 hours from 7am. Looked at the new snow outside (so much for the tiny patch of lawn), chased the little bell around the room, took apart the old easter basket and she turned off the bathroom light. Got ready to go to brunch, then looped home and managed to extend car snooze to 12:40pm. Out again to Alexandra's first invite to a birthday (1st, unicorns), home by 4pm. Bit of downtime and grading (briefly with little one during laundry), then there from 6pm leading into dinner and bed routine. Left after 7pm for last gaming session in far Orleans (Trek), home after 11pm. Toast.
