Now Parenting: Week 36

Sunday: Up by 6am, stayed in bed trying to achieve six hours sleep. Little one awakens 7:15am, half hour (including tummy time), breakfast, dropped off at swim as I go to Seussical rehearsal for 9am. Home for 4:45pm, and routine much like last Sunday. (Half hour talking to grandparents, over a half hour of some play.) Dinner 6:15pm, and bath including hair. Some fussing either side of 8pm, then a few coughs but she self soothes, downstairs before 10pm. Then, WHOA, screams after 10pm. Trouble breathing, and nothing to suck from nose, but sounds congested... wife calls TeleHeath, suggest bathroom with hot shower running. Seems to help, as does music. Elevated the crib more, settled back for 11:30pm, plan to check in with doctor.

Monday: Briefly awake after over five hours, then managed just over six. Dreamt of a flight being diverted to China and then being stuck there; avoiding gun turrets in private plane to get out? With Alexandra for 90 minutes from 7:30am, including some time in shower sauna and in cardboard box. She snoozed with Mom after 9am, then 8 Month photo and breakfast. Grading quizzes, then photo outside in snowsuit, then with Alexandra for 2 hours and a 45 minute snooze. (Included seeing a little cat outside trying to get over the snow - ended up in the cedars!) Back to grading. Dinner before 6pm, bath included shower running (new routine), crib by 7pm. Needed a half hour to settle in again before 8pm. Then silence until a complete replay of the previous night, minus the phone call, but plus peeing while attempting to change her diaper. Downstairs by 11:30pm again. Aaaand upstairs for another half hour, returning downstairs 12:30am.

Tuesday: Awake by 6am, sigh. Little one was in elevated crib until 4am though, yay, and she only woke up after 7:30am. Standard school with lunch duty and Seussical at the end. Home via store, arrived 5:45pm in time for a half hour with little one (she tries to grab running water from the tap). Also, she'd sat nicely in a high chair that morning when Mom had breakfast with other moms. Then dinner, bath, crib for 7:30pm. Some fussing between 8 and 9pm. I'm zonked before 10pm, downstairs.

Wednesday: Awake 4am for cries, they're in the steam room. Manage to get Alexandra back to sleep, downstairs before 5am... never quite asleep after that, and up at 6:30am. With little one for half an hour shortly before 7:15am. Standard school with math help at lunch. Home with little one for another half hour until 5:15pm, outing with her for burgers (high chair pic), home again 6:30pm, bedtime routine. Very restless between 8pm and 9:30pm though. Downstairs by 10pm.

Thursday: Dreamt I was doing online reviews, had Linkara as a plot guest (I have a submarine whereas he has the spaceship). Woke after six hours - I think I'm finally fully sick with flu. With Alexandra briefly from 7am, breakfast, then they're off to the doctor's and I'm off to school. Math help at lunch and an on call and Seussical after, so no real break from 8am to 6pm. With Alexandra for a bit after 6pm (she's 6.7 kg now and no medical problem), then bedtime routine. Fine in crib until after 9pm. Downstairs 10:30pm.

Friday: Upstairs 12:30am for cries, then downstairs, then back up shortly thereafter. Into steam room, but then also needs a change. Asleep by 1:30am, I'm awake, do grading. Try to sleep about 3:30am, get almost three more hours - Alexandra in crib to after 5:30am, so wow. With her for half an hour, shovel snow, breakfast, to school. Which includes anime club, and after school 3U data finalizing plus Seussical. Home for 6pm, with Alexandra for half an hour, then the routine. Stayed asleep from before 8pm, so downstairs after 10pm.

Saturday: Upstairs 1am for an hour with near constant crying (in and out of "sauna") - until big spit-up at 2am! Soothed back to sleep by 3am, than I managed sleep to 7am, so over five hours total. Breakfast, then to school for just after 9am for Seussical (including Xmas tree wrangling). And apparently the students like when I do applause. Back home after 5pm, little one very excited to see me. Played for 45 minutes, including Alexandra's own peek-a-boo where she hides her face in the curtains then looks towards Mommy. Fun laughs. Tried a 360 water cup with dinner, and new submarine bath toy after. Asleep after 7pm. Restless after 7:30pm and an hour later needs 45 minutes including some sauna. Mom takes over. Downstairs by 10:30pm.

Now Parenting: Week 35

Sunday: I'm briefly awake after 4am (for no reason), then nose clearing before 6am brings me upstairs after over six hours sleep. With Alexandra for an hour, then breakfast with peanut butter. We manage a snooze after 8am, then (slightly late) swim at 9am where I'm with little one in the water. We used noodles! Weigh-in, then I head to the school by 11am for rehearsal (first full run with band). Home just after 4:30pm; Alexandra had held her own bottle earlier! Phoned parents, dinner before 5:30pm, full bath, attempt to crib a few times, success before 7pm. But then issues a half hour later, and again before 8pm, and again, and she just wants to be held...? Sweet, but finishing dinner is nice too. Downstairs not long after 9pm, did some anime review work.
Previous INDEX Next

Monday: Awake about 5:30am, little one up before 7am, with her for half an hour, breakfast, standard school. Home by 4pm, shortly after they got home (outing included getting impressions of hands and feet). A bit of play (valentine's day box from grandma arrived early) then standard snooze. After 90 minutes, went to deal with shower clog. After 6pm things get interesting; people from Anne-Lise's work and arthritis society calling, creating issues with dinner (after 6:30pm) and bath. Only get to story and bed at 7:15pm, asleep with an assist for 8pm. Then two other incidents; I go downstairs before 9:30pm. Then briefly upstairs before 10pm for cries.

Tuesday: Awake before 5am, so usual six hours. Some review work, with Alexandra after 6:45am for over a half hour. Standard school, then at the end of the day they closed the schools. Through to Thursday. Mind boggling. Back home after 4pm, arriving same time as the others from new playgroup - which includes hand-me-down clothes and valentines including a special umbrella. (Unfortunately Mom slipped on the ice, fell on her butt and knocked heads with little one.) To standard snooze, then some play. Dinner after 6pm, little one's still restless (except between 8 and 9pm). After half an hour of soothing, need to shovel snow, downstairs before 10:30pm.

Wednesday: Briefly awake 4am, but then not until cries at 6:15am, so seven hours sleep. Unfortunately upstairs, been awake every couple hours, so with Alexandra for five and a half hours to give a break. Did breakfast myself at 9am, two snoozes (standard 8am, then an hour before 11am) and played with tupperware lids. Snowed almost constantly during that time, so over an hour shovelling after, plus more time to get to the store. Finally a bit of a break until 3pm, then marinading fish and a half hour with Alexandra. (Poor girl whacked herself in the head while knocking her two bells together.) Exchanging of Valentine's cards, math conference call, bedtime routine. Mom steps in with her as fish is being cooked, then wine with dinner, and "Murder She Wrote" review video. Dad's turn before 10pm. Downstairs by 11pm.

Thursday: A little over five hours sleep; it always seems to balance out to six, huh? With Alexandra for about 20 minutes after 7am - over five minutes on her tummy! (She went into it herself and was encouraged.) Standard school with some math help at lunch, and Seussical rehearsal after. Bought gas (before prices go up 7c?), home for 5:45pm. (Two toys rented from group, one has lots of mirrors.) Some time with wee munchkin before dinner, which is after 6:15. Fussing from 7:40 to 8:40 is consistent, then nothing until after 10pm when I basically collapse.

Friday: Awake before 5am, so six hours. She's briefly awake at 6am but asleep once I'm upstairs; with her for over half an hour after 6:45am. Including more tummy when she tried to pull herself over my leg. Standard school plus anime club (in adjacent room), and Seussical after school, for not quite an hour. Some damage to self on the way home while shopping, plus flooding on the freeway, so not home until 5pm. Got a half hour with the little one (including new mirror toy borrowed from group), dinner at 6pm. Needed a half hour before 8pm, when that failed 10 minutes later, Mom tried. Silence; downstairs after 10:30pm. (Alexandra only awakens 1am, also had diluted bottle.)

Saturday: Stuffed nose distress at 3am. Trouble getting back to sleep, but then out until almost 7:30am. (!) So seven hours sleep, split in the middle. With little one for 2.5 hours after (including snooze); moved toy box out to main area with "new" toys taking up space. Sorting out trip, breakfast before 11am. With Alexandra again from 11:30 (including snooze), managed to load up car to meet Anne-Lise after 1:30pm, then on to Hawkesbury. Almost five hours there (including snooze before 5pm despite her sleeping en route), pleasant visit, managed a photo of her at the piano. Home for 9pm, more food, and she settled in crib reasonably well. Downstairs from 11pm. I may be coming down with a cold.

Now Parenting: Week 34

Sunday: Woke 5:30am, so over six hours sleep (!!). Finished writing post, with Alexandra for almost an hour and a half from 6:45am. Like Friday, about 5 minutes on tummy, taking side breaks, before rolling out. (Good job!) Swim class. (More on swim class in file; did a full dunk.) Home after 10am, breakfast including some peanut butter mixed in with the oats/prunes. (Apparently never give straight to a kid under 4, the stickiness means it can clot and cause breathing trouble.) No immediate reaction, but not a lot eaten, tired; snooze 10:30pm. Phoned home after 11:30pm, then with Alexandra for four hours... almost two of which was a snooze. Also brought out new toy (four sider). Into mark entry after 4pm. Dinner after 5:30pm, Alexandra's in crib by 6:30pm, I'm already outside shovelling. Except inside to make our dinner at 7pm as issues (later diagnosed as nose) continue for almost an hour. I do my soothe thing at 9pm, and am downstairs before 10pm.
Previous INDEX Next

Monday: Awakened after 4am but managed to fall asleep again (dream about pocket universes and jump gates became one about bringing yuri to a conference). So six hours. Did some work, with Alexandra briefly after she woke up after 7:20am (she had pulled her legs up against her torso again), went in under freezing fog advisory. New standard school, three classes. At lunch, a drama teacher (LTO), remembers having me for Data Mgmt. ^o^ After school, Seussical rehearsal. Home after 5:30pm, dinner 6pm. In crib by 7pm but fussed so after 7:30pm (as I do dinner). Then some issues before 8:30pm, as Mom handles new TV setup. Also before 9:30pm, and I'm downstairs by 10pm.

Tuesday: Little one seems to wake up 4:30am these days; I roll over, six hours interrupted sleep. Then dealing with ice on driveway (no busses), quick change after 7:40am, and school with very few students. Staff meeting at lunch, got report comments done, home for 4pm. Half hour of more ice, then almost 90 minutes with Alexandra (including snooze near the start). Dinner before 6:30pm, in crib an hour later, some fussing before 8:30pm. Downstairs after 10pm. (Aside: Does the nose issue relate to teething? Clearing has become part of bedtime routine.)

Wednesday: Six hours sleep (dreamt of discussing with Dom the strange use of tuba in a story). With Alexandra for an hour after 6am, breakfast, standard school with some help at start/end of lunch. And tech issues at end of day. Home (via gas station, used $30 in points leaving me with under $1) by 4:30pm. With Alexandra for over an hour, then vectoring out (in ice pellets) for second flu shot. Home again before 7:30pm, she's asleep but wakes up coughing, immediately towards change/bottle/crib. Brief fussing later, otherwise calm, downstairs before 11pm.

Thursday: Six hours, with Alexandra for maybe 45 minutes before breakfast and some shovelling. Standard school (lunch duty in lab), then Seussical. Meanwhile, Mom was at the dentist (ended up needing little one in her lap), then shopping (slept), then at playgroup with a speech pathologist there giving advice. Also, Alexandra threw her hat onto the floor of the bus. Was home by 5:45pm, bit of time with her, dinner at 6:15pm, etc. Mom put her down in crib and she stayed quiet at first attempt. Brief fussing after 8pm, otherwise no issues; went downstairs before 11pm.

Friday: Six hours, out to driveway, then with Alexandra for maybe 45 minutes again from 6:30am. Breakfast, more driveway, standard school including anime at lunch. Failure call, home for 4pm, more driveway, little one's still asleep so brief downtime. (Blind is down more, to look out a bit from crib.) With whacky for less than an hour, dinner just before 6pm. She spit up both down her front (inside her onesie) and in bath, which are new. Headed out 7pm to Math Retreat (brief stop en route). Back home after 10:30pm, downstairs not long after.

Saturday: Alexandra was up from 4-5:30am (I woke briefly), so with her from 7:15am until breakfast. (Soother was somehow in her sleep sack.) Headed out 8:30am for 9am arrival at Math Retreat. Back home before 1:30pm, and four hours with the little one, including two standard snoozes. Dinner before 6:30pm, preparing our dinner from 7pm, fussing almost immediately after so rocked to sleep before 8pm. New issues at 9:30pm; downstairs after 10pm.

Sunday 3 February 2019

Now Parenting: Week 33

Sunday: Five hours sleep, with Alexandra for not quite an hour, then Mom went by bus to swimming after 8am, giving a chance for grading/resting. Snow and weighing after 11am. 90 minute snooze from 12:45pm. More grading, back with Alexandra by 5:45pm. Dinner before 6:30pm, in crib before 8pm but nose issues a half hour later. Then all quiet; more grading. Downstairs after 10pm.
Aside: Mom remarks on crawl training without pants or socks for friction. Sensible.
Previous INDEX Next

Monday: Woke up after 5am, just under six hours sleep, graded. Little one had been up at 3am, but then slept until after 7:15! (Possibly due to less light?) Diaper loses containment overnight lately though, so Mom bought overnights. Me, to school at 8am, exam day, missing presentations done, more grading, home before 4pm. Immediately into snooze, managed 45 minutes. Some back and forth, dinner from 6pm, story, cooking, etc. Cribbed by 7:15pm with Mom doing better at it herself. Two issues by 8pm, then again before 10pm. Restless at 10pm but I'm done.

Tuesday: Less than 5 hrs sleep, but managed to get in another hour+ (dreamt was teaching English). Cries by 5:45am; little one had been awake and asleep constantly due to cold in her nose. With her for an hour, then some shovelling and off to school. Not standard; graded reports, had last presentation, Seussical rehearsal, then home before 4pm. Alexandra was asleep, but with her an hour after she awoke, then some shovelling and dinner after 5:30pm. (Invented new game, Queen on her Throne, with animals as her subjects.) In crib by 6:45 and Mom went to a movie with a friend. Early soother issues but then three hours of grading (as she turned 90 degrees). Issues before 10:30pm though, after Mom returned, took over an hour and two changes to settle down again. Downstairs midnight.

Wednesday: Over five hours sleep, graded until others woke at 7:45am (!). (Alexandra had her bottle before 6am. Also, overnights don't work.) Breakfast and play, etc, left before 9:30am for stroller walk at St. Laurent. (Three stars!) Then on to sign class at 11am, and to school by 12:30pm. For Seussical. Minor grading, home again for 5pm, dinner for little one before 6pm, in crib before 7pm. (Incidentally, some slight bonks on the head for munchkin today.) Dinner for us, and a break. Until before 8pm when a half hour of bottle/soothing was needed, and I was done by 8:30pm. Asleep in clothes.

Thursday: Woken up 5 hours later after 1:30am by Alexandra's cold. Graded papers for three hours, then tried sleep but no... meanwhile, upstairs Alexandra had already gotten her sack wet. With little one from 6am for over 75 minutes. Breakfast, off to work, grading, Seussical, lunch out, more grading. Home before 5pm; with Alexandra for over half an hour after she woke up. Dinner after 6pm (intro to squash!), in crib after 7:30pm. Comic chat, with some fussing around 9:30pm, I'm downstairs less than an hour later.

Friday: Five hours solid sleep, then vague attempts. With little one for 45 minutes after she woke up - including over 5 minutes on her tummy! She has a butt in the air thing going, more circular movement, but she hardly fussed. (Then she flipped her plate at breakfast when Dad left the table, so...) Left for school by 8am, PD all day (small robots and grading conversations) with classroom setup at lunch and Monday prep at end. Home by 5pm, with Alexandra for half an hour, crashed for half an hour, dinner. She never stirred, downstairs to bed at 10pm.

Saturday: Woke up at 4am because five hours is the new norm for sleep. Did manage another bit of time in there. With Alexandra for almost two hours from 6:30am. Shower, shovelling, out to brunch. Home as the weather gets worse, no extended snooze, another two hours until 2pm. Then change clothes and out again for photo shoot. Home again after 4pm, I'm so spent. And yet, after a break, shovelling and a trip to and from the store (four stars). Dinner before 6:30pm, much splashing for bath (she likes chewing on the little book but it does make things wet). In crib an hour later, but issues at 8pm with nose. And again after 9pm. Wouldn't settle down, Mom finally took her before 10pm. Went downstairs before 11pm, things unfinished.
Alert: Alexandra now knows how to remove her hat.
