Now Parenting: Week 32

Sunday: Alexandra slept through to 4:44am! I woke not long after that, was with her for a couple hours after 5:30am (including snooze). Breakfast, snow shovelling for first major storm of 2019, pool time, home after 10am. More time with little one when she wakes as Mom makes dinner, eventually go for downtime. Meanwhile, Alexandra resists sleep so Mom walks a dark corridor until it leads to a 1.5 hour snooze. Some back and forth, music needed for snooze after 5pm. Dinner (rough), bath (okay), in crib before 7:30pm. Then after 9pm I manage to break a bowl in the dish rack while putting away the leftover lasagna (last thing that bowl will ever know :( ), which wakes Alexandra. About twenty minutes to settle her, then I head downstairs. No lunar eclipse for the weary. Even when I visit upstairs again briefly after 10pm.
Previous INDEX Next

Monday: Woken up after 4am, couldn't get back to sleep. With Alexandra for 90 min from 5:30am, including a snooze that she needed but REALLY resisted. Standard school on a bitterly cold day. Home after 2pm, resisting a snooze in progress. Ended up doing both saline and first administration of Tylenol (no fever, likely her tooth coming in). Then snoozed for 75 min at 3pm. Then played for 75 min, then early dinner. In crib before 7pm (after small nail trim), but then issues every 20 minutes or so after that. Settled by 8:30pm, downstairs after 9pm, spent.

Tuesday: Woken at 5am but that does mean 6 hours sleep (and little one slept well to then). With Alexandra for about 45 minutes until 7am, breakfast, standard school with some lunch help. Home before 1:30pm, but little one's asleep, so grading. Then with her almost an hour, then hit a wall and needed an hour of sleep. Then even though Alexandra had woken up she was fussing and rubbing her eyes, so ended up with another snooze 45 minutes later, for 45 minutes. Dinner after 6pm, in crib before 8pm, then eerily silent. (Tried to figure out TV issues.) 2.5 hours later, some bottle and back down. Then a half hour of much bottle starting just before midnight.

Wednesday: Woke after 6am to find Alexandra had been awake for close to two hours already. With her for an hour from 6:30am, snooze didn't work, had to shovel crazy amount of snow, no busses for schools. Some students, left to get home and do more shovelling, inside by 1:30pm. Stroller wouldn't have worked, so Sign Class needed baby bjorn for first time. Collapsed half an hour, then with Alexandra 2.5 hours - over half of that a snooze (she hadn't slept much since 4am). Back to mom at 5pm, but some freezing pellets so didn't do driveway again, quick rest. Dinner 6pm, crib by 7:30pm, but then a couple restless moments. Went downstairs 9pm, beat.
Asides: She's started this trend of leaning forwards (even in chairs), as well as sleeping by leaning back against me, still kind of sitting up.

Thursday: Awakened 4am, then everyone else got back to sleep. Went out 5:45am to try and deal with driveway. Car got stuck trying to do a 3 point turn on our unplowed road. Freed only with help from nice neighbour who lives near the ice trough. Phoned in weather issues, came in 7am when others were waking up but I was beat again. Managed breakfast after 8am, sent a work update, snooze with Alexandra at 9am. Then another work update, and phoned city (311) to get a plow (also called Rogers). Dishes, handling ice, then to play group with Alexandra. Home, couldn't sleep, dinner for her at 5:30pm (she hardly slept all day either), crib before 7pm. Nose issues before 8pm, then awake twice after during comic chat. (Also, took a radio survey so phone wouldn't ring...) Downstairs by 10:30pm.

Friday: Awoken 12:30am as street got more cleared of snow. Heard little one awaken at 1:30am, managed to sleep again until 6am. With Alexandra for 45 minutes, breakfast, to school (finally) for exams (room setup, etc). Morning went okay, then had to pick up diaper bag that I forget on Thurs, and stop by store. Home 2pm, a snooze of 1 hr 20 min, and almost immediately back out to math gathering (arriving after 4pm). Home again after 6pm, bit of play, then bedtime routine. I can't handle calming her as I wrestle with Excel, my wife steps in. Little one stays asleep past 11pm when I go downstairs, beyond exhausted.
Aside: She doesn't fuss when she spits up, so sometimes it's hard to notice right away.

Saturday: Wake up after 4am, because my body hates me. With Alexandra for 2.5 hours from 6:30am, but last 1.5 hours was a long snooze (with some one handed computing). Attempt to rest, no dice, deal with writing. Three hours of Alexandra time again near 11:30am, including two snoozes at start and end. Again no dice on sleep. Manage to get a last snooze for her at 4:45pm, then quick shopping trip. Dinner from 6:30pm (trying chicken broth), then routine. Anne-Lise sets up the bluray (and tv randomly works). I go downstairs 8pm to try and actually get some school work done. Munchkin visit at 9:30pm goes horribly wrong whenever I try to leave. Took dinner at 10:30pm. Still grading an hour later during final cry. I loathe January.

Now Parenting: Week 31

Sunday: Didn't fall asleep until after 1am. Awoken after 5am by crying for saline. Attempted sleep, checked upstairs 6am, resigned self to doing school work. Everyone awake 7:30am, so breakfast, etc and headed out for swim by 8:30am. Starfish Swim was a half hour from 9am (no photos), then on to weigh-in (10g only), home before 10:30am. With Alexandra for over three hours including snooze at the end. Managed a nap 2-3pm, then took down wreaths outside and did some school work. Called home before 5pm, snooze attempt failed, dinner after 6pm, crib attempt failed at 7:30pm, better by 8pm. Then nose issues 9pm, bottle issues before 9:30pm - I'm toast.
Previous INDEX Next

Monday: Awake after 5 hours but managed to sleep another hour or so. Some school work, upstairs 6am to check in, Alexandra's been awake for a bit, shower then. Return 7am once exam is set, breakfast. Standard school, help at lunch (a student for the math puzzle I've never had says he thinks I'm a good teacher). Finalize things, home after 2pm for 90 minutes with Alexandra (including snooze) then back out to math meeting. Home again 7pm in time for tears (dinner didn't go great). In crib by 8pm as I handle dishes, dinner and recycling. Only one soothing issue, maybe because bear blanket is there? Downstairs shortly after 10pm, that's when she wakes up.

Tuesday: Close to 7 hours sleep? With Alexandra for an hour in the morning, then breakfast and standard school, plus help at lunch. Little one apparently slept a lot today (8am, to and from library) and was asleep when arriving home after 2:30pm, so Dad also slept for over 45 minutes. Then with Alexandra for almost two hours (including another snooze). Dinner after 6pm, I got the hiccups, that was hilarious for her. In crib after 7:30pm, some fussing before 9pm, otherwise did grading and fixed step counter. Downstairs after 11:30pm.

Wednesday: Awake after 3 hours because my bladder hates me. Then awake again by 5am because there's troubles upstairs. With Alexandra for 90 minutes (including snooze at the end) from before 6am. Drive-by breakfast (for me), standard school, prepped final items, cancelled yoga so was at Seussical rehearsal, home after 5pm when others were home too. (Alexandra had sign class, then movie, then spilling water in a restaurant.) Took Alexandra for a snooze, then dishwasher and dryer. Dinner after 6:30pm, fussing, so had it from Mom's lap. In crib before 8pm, two rough patches with the last at 10pm. Went to bed at midnight after grading.

Thursday: Little one slept until 3am! I got not quite six hours of interrupted sleep, with Alexandra for half an hour, then shower and breakfast and standard school. Tidied desk and final preps, rehearsal after school. Home before 5:30pm, almost immediately to a snooze, prolonged by bottle... and after over two hours, shifted to Mom. Tried to watch Trek's "Discovery" but TV is glitching (broken?), needed to cook dinner and do comic chat anyway. Alexandra woke back up at 10pm, to bed without bath, still asleep at 1am when musical counts were finished and I went downstairs.

Friday: 7 MONTHS. Woken up after less than 5 hours sleep. With Alexandra for not quite an hour from before 6:30am, breakfast, standard school, stayed for anime club. Then had to deal with "synch" issue that caused student to try and access account. Bank on the way home (need cheques), arrived after 2pm, crashed half an hour. With Alexandra for half an hour, then photos and learning signs with everyone, then another hour including snooze. After 5pm, put up a clock in little one's room. Also, snow outside. Dinner after 6pm, into crib after 7:30pm. Issues after 8pm, downstairs by 10pm. Upstairs briefly around 10:30.

Saturday: Less than six hours sleep, with Alexandra for half an hour after 5:30am but then needed help to clear her nose. Continued for two hours after that, including standard snooze, then breakfast, then crashed for an hour. Then out to meet friends. Back with Alexandra for a couple hours after noon. Then checking for window leak and down time. Tradeoffs after 4pm, and shopping, and crankiness aborting dinner at 6:30pm. In crib before 8pm. Two glitches after, while grading, nothing through 11pm.

Now Parenting: Week 30

Sunday: Soother in every main room now, btw, thanks to Christmas. Crying at 5am, never slept well after that. Tried grading, but heard fussing, so with Alexandra for 2.5 hours from around 6:45am (including snooze). Then back and forth to deal with dishes and breakfast, which was at 10am. Dealing with grading again by 11am, break in there for phone and departure, only drafts left to do by 1pm. Calm by the time I went to relatives for 6pm, snooze time upon arrival, dinner, home after 8:30pm. Caught up? Downstairs after 10pm.
Previous INDEX Next

Monday: Woke up after 5:30am, so close to seven hours sleep. No one awake, did some non-school stuff, had Alexandra for about 15 minutes at 7am after shower, then breakfast, and on to standard school. Home for about 1:15pm, with Alexandra (including snooze), out again to get to dentist by 3pm. Another hour after being at home (with another snooze) to dinner at 6pm. The crib, though, took over half an hour to settle her down. Then issues an hour later. I'm out of it before 9pm.

Tuesday: Awake about 5:30am - but 8 hours sleep? No one awake, shovelled the driveway, then with Alexandra for half an hour until after 7am. Breakfast, left for school, returned to put on proper shirt, still made it on time despite terrible left turn into parking lot. Standard morning, help at lunch, prep afternoon, staff meeting. Home after 4:30pm, with Alexandra from 5-7:15pm including snooze and trip out to buy more food (Mom on conference call). Then dinner, etc. In crib before 9pm. Only one disruption, downstairs by 10pm.

Wednesday: Woke up usual time, over six hours sleep, did dishes. Alexandra slept 5 hrs straight from about midnight! With her for half an hour, breakfast, standard school, prep afternoon since yoga after school, shopping on way home. Home after 5pm then out for playgroup at 5:30pm! First to arrive, two others eventually came; played with changing colour cube, she knocked objects together (a 9 month thing), had a bit of bottle for snack, we did songs and there was a story about a monkey. Fun! Headed out about 7:15pm, home, immediately bath and bed routine. Settled briefly after 8pm, then everything went haywire a half hour later. Downstairs at 10pm.

Thursday: Awake after 5am hearing crying; with Alexandra for about 80 minutes from 6am, half of that being a snooze. Hurried out for standard school, help at lunch, some afternoon work, home after 2pm with a headache. Rested for a couple hours, then a couple hours with the little one (including snooze), dinner at 6:45pm. In crib about 8pm, though needed two resets by 9:30pm. Downstairs 10:30pm.

Friday: Dreamt my Dad was taking a last overseas trip, to Finland, which is also where Schrum was taking a music trip and one day crossed over? Sure. Awake before 5:30am, did some school work. Alexandra slept from 1am to 6:30am (!!). With her briefly, then breakfast, standard school plus anime club, and hurried home before 12:30pm so my wife could make an appointment. Little one snoozed for over an hour. (Have started humming songs to her again.) Bit of play, putting away holiday decorations, another snooze with me about 4pm, dealing with holiday lights, dinner at 6pm, in crib before 7:30pm. But by 8pm, much troubles with a stuck burp, an attempt at music, and eventually settled her. Went downstairs after 9:15pm.

Interlude: Falling asleep during a high school play - Lisa from high school was there? Then intermission, and looking at school which was at one time going to have an observatory? Shifted to sightseeing on a streetcar, up a hill. Then my grandparents were there, and we tried harmonizing. Woke up 5:30am.

Saturday: Awake 5:30am, no one else was, did some writing. Took Alexandra for over two hours after 7:30am (including snooze), then breakfast. With her again for two hours (including snooze) until 1:30pm, when we were at the mall for shopping - pants and a discount tree. Back home for 3pm and a third snooze. Then dishes, and discovering tree box was empty - back to store, home for 6pm. Dinner soon after, Alexandra in crib after 7:30pm following one false start. Attempted more writing - uninterrupted. Downstairs by 10pm; brief investigation upstairs after. And I&I results had me in the top 50% of entrants.

Now Parenting: Week 29

Sunday: Managed back to sleep until after 6am. (Dreams of diving to mystery ship became trouble with photocopier.) With Alexandra after about 6:45am for an hour, then started with car loading while Grandpa shovelled. Breakfast at 8am. (Included a look in the Santa, as with previous breakfast, as hadn't managed it the first night.) On the road just after 9am. At Nick's just before 10am, second breakfast.
Previous INDEX Next
On the road around 11:30am, at Trenton for 1pm. Back on road after 1:30, mostly sobs through to Kingston, stopped at Cataraqui mall there. Food court lunch, little one fell asleep. Left just before 3:30pm, half hour later at last "on route" as she woke up. Left there after 4:30pm, even more sobs until at home after 6pm. Started bed routine. Paper books not so great, as she eats them (need thick pages). Dinner after 7:30pm, downstairs after 9pm.

Monday: Woke up before 6:30am, then had baby constipation issues. Early wheat breakfast. Took over at 7:15am for 4.5 hours, including standard snooze and cute sleep from 10am to 11:45am in my lap. Then dealt with ice, dishes, shower, shopping... home after 3pm. Passing of the little one, including a snooze with me ending at 5:30pm after company arrived. Started bath routine after 6:30pm. Managed to be asleep in crib by 8pm but only with music. Celebrations with relatives, champagne at 10pm, left after 11pm. Alexandra fussed 11:45pm, all together in bed before end of Flames game, bit of Nash, Happy New Year. Stayed upstairs.

Tuesday: Leg cramp 2:30am, Anne-Lise took watch 5:30am, woke after 7am. With Alexandra for just over 3 hours from 7:45am (two snoozes). Breakfast, finished dishes, called aunt, left for another gathering 12:30pm. Left there 3:30pm with the little one myself, snooze on the way home then later at home, overall just under 3 hours. Towards bath/bed before 7pm, success before 8pm, though one interruption to the "Doctor Who" episode. Headed downstairs after 10pm. Beat.

Wednesday: Woke after 5am from standard 6 hr sleep, decided to try and get some stuff done. Tricky change with Alexandra, with her for two hours (including snooze) from 6:45am. Back and forth for laundry and shovelling, after snooze they went visiting from 11:45am. They were back five hours later (some grading got done, plus got a new $10 at the drug store), in time for first attempt at dinner (crushed beef and sweet potatoes). She wasn't so sure about those. Vectored to bath before 6:30pm. Bed in about an hour but hiccup at 8:15pm. No music though! Tried story editing, downstairs 11pm.

Thursday: Dreamt was with math news again, had to hurry to catch train after talking with Schrum? Standard sleep. Both ladies of the house sick, with Alexandra from 7am to try and encourage more sleep. Ripped pants retrieving soother. She slept 2.5 hours after 8am, so it was worth it (had some micro sleeps where I dreamt she was awake and I was bouncing her on my leg). Some play on the mat, breakfast, out after noon, left little one with grandparents from 1pm to 3:45pm (saw "Spiderverse" with Anne-Lise, work plans fell through). Then tea and home for 5pm. Near choke of dinner before 6:30pm ended that quick, so bath and crib. Done before 8pm but much in and out between 9:30 and 10:30pm. Went downstairs an hour later.

Friday: Standard sleep for me, apparently really good sleep for the ladies. Alexandra slept until 7:30am. I only took her for half an hour, then breakfast and everything before our cleaning service came. More snow shovelling. 90 minutes with little one from 10:30am including standard snooze, then finished story edits. Out at 1:45pm to Doctor's, home again (solo) at 4pm, crashed for an hour. Out for dinner at 6:30pm, not home (with all) until 8:30pm, immediate bath/crib. (Trying with giraffe soother.) Then more fussing at 9:30, and 9:45, and I'm downstairs after 10pm, exhausted despite the nap.

Saturday: Heard something upstairs at 4:15am, otherwise got sleep. All still asleep after 6:30am, so graded papers, then with Alexandra for an hour. Breakfast after 8:45am, then out. Home by noon, de-icing driveway and grading, everyone else back 3pm, still grading. Was with little one for 90 minutes (including standard snooze), then dinner after 6pm. In crib before 8pm but disruption around 8:30pm (bracketed by minor issues). Caught some Nash, while grading, downstairs after 10pm. Sign language class may not have enough signups to run, that sucks.
